MP Emma Hardy speaks to our community about pulling together
On Friday 13th (lucky for us) March we were treated to a wonderful Iftar celebration, attended by staff, volunteers, our service users and guests from the wider community, including West Hull MP Emma Hardy, who gave a speech about the importance of supporting each other and how the city pulled together after the riots in 2024.
On the night the Centre was busy and the atmosphere warm. It felt good to be celebrating a festival that means so much to our Muslim community members. Before the meal began, silence was called. All attention turned to the corner by the Ramadan display. A young man’s voice filled the expectant hush, reciting the Adhan, a call to prayer which marks the breaking of the fast. After that we set to eating the food cooked by Warda, Hafida and team, who worked so hard to make this event a resounding success. We ate soup, chicken and rice, vegetable gratin and vegetable rolls. Bowls of dates were on the table, a customary way of breaking the fast.
