We held our celebration of International Women’s Day on Monday, 9th March. There were moving speeches from women of different cultures, talking about their lived experiences and giving us pause for thought about the circumstances women in their countries are forced to endure. The wonderful Hull Community Voices led us in song. After the speeches, songs and a poem created from the statements of many women, we all sat down to eat a meal cooked by our tireless kitchen staff. Greatest respect to them for preparing our food, though they themselves were fasting for Ramadan.
Feedback from invitees to our Women’s Day event includes:
“It was a great pleasure to attend Welcome House’s International Women’s Day celebrations, with heart-warming speakers. It was humbling yet uplifting.”
“I had a wonderful time today at Welcome House, Hull, for their International Women’s Day celebration.
It was tremendously important to hear women from different backgrounds talk about their experiences and think about how to better support women and girls in our community and also around the world.
Thank you for inviting me and for the wonderful food and lovely gift, which was incredibly kind!
A beautiful celebration of womanhood, courage and resilience!
